Savanna Safari and Wonders of Wales 🦁
This week, we have continued our exciting learning journey through the Savanna! The children have been busy adding to their Savanna safari maps, thinking carefully about the types of animals they might spot on a real safari. They have been researching and discussing the animals' diets, appearances, and how they have adapted to life in the Savanna habitat. We have been so impressed with the standard of writing and how the children have challenged themselves to include detailed descriptions!
Alongside this, we have completed some extra challenges as part of our ‘COOL’ tasks. In the maths area, using balancing scales, we weighed animals in different sized boxes, counting how many cubes each animal weighed before recording our findings in fact files. In the construction area, we continued designing and building sanctuaries for the animals, carefully considering which 3D shapes would make the most effective structures and exploring their properties.
We have loved exploring our new role play area, where we have been creating leaflets to show how we can care for the different animals arriving at our rescue centre. In the digital area, we scanned QR codes to listen to different animal sounds, trying to decipher which animal was making which noise and if they were predator or prey.
This week, we also began preparations for our Eisteddfod after half term. The children have been learning about different Welsh castles, exploring their features, and selecting their favourites to create mixed media Welsh castle art. Later in the week, we turned our attention to Welsh poetry, beginning to write our own pieces inspired by Wales and the beautiful colours of a rainbow. We have also started learning our Welsh song, ‘Lawr Ar Lan Y Môr’ (Down by the Seaside).
In maths, we have continued working on doubling numbers. You may have heard some very enthusiastic singing this week as the children have been learning a catchy song to help them remember their doubles!
The Pili-Pala team would like to wish you all a happy and restful half term! We hope you have an amazing week off, and we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when you return 🦋
