*Beginning: Plant Parts Sorting

1. Look at the list of fruits and vegetables below. 

2. Sort them into roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. This can be done as a list, a thinking frame or a picture – you choose.

Fruit & Vegetable to sort: Carrot, apple, lettuce, potato, broccoli, sweetcorn, celery, peas

** Developing: Kitchen Investigation

1. Look in your kitchen or fridge

2. Choose 5 fruits or vegetables

3. Write their names in a table, like below, and decide which part of the plant each one is. (root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit or seed)

*** Mastery: Think and Explain

  1. Choose 6 different fruits or vegetables from home of a shop
  2. Write their names and say which plant part they come from
  3. Answer these questions in full sentences:

Why do you think plants have these different parts?

Why do you think humans eat different parts of plants?

Can one plant have more than one edible part? Give an example

Bonus Challenge:

Create a colourful poster showing different plant parts and examples of fruits or vegetables we eat from each part.
